We suggest that you begin with Memorizing ? a method that will help you learn a number of new words. You can then repeat the same material in the Spelling mode in order to make it stick in your long-term memory and to learn how to spell newly memorized words correctly. You may also choose the Listening method whenever you want ? while riding a bike, driving a car, having a rest, or doing the housework. Listening is a great solution for foreign language learning and it helps you revise the memorized material as well as learn new vocabulary.
Speeq memorizing method is a strong tool for foreign language learning. You can replay a particular sound by touching alternately the upper or the lower part of the screen where words and phrases are displayed. Master both words and phrases. Each phrase indicates how a particular word can be used, but it also serves as an effective memorization technique.
Select the “Acquired”, “Partially acquired” or “Not acquired” option, depending on your individual level of progress in language learning. Rely on your algorithm that will ask you to repeat the word you did not know at the beginning a given number of times and at suitable time intervals.
Make use of memory anchors if you encounter any problems with memorizing a particular word, it is a great way to make a given word or phrase stick in your memory.
Speeq’s memory anchors let you memorize a new word much faster through finding associations between the word and well-known objects, people, or images. This strategy is based on mnemotechnics, which date back to ancient Greek times and today are referred to as the Word Substitute Technique.
We’ll teach you how to improve your memorization skills with the aid of the Word Substitute Technique – a mnemonic technique that works miracles in your memory through finding associations.
If you want to memorize something effectively, link the new word with something well known to you using the power of your imagination. The basis of a good anchor is imagining an absurd, positive, funny or exaggerated situation linked with a given word according to the rule:
IMAGE + ACTION = REMEMBERING
The following will be very useful:
• Seeing the image with the eyes of your imagination, along with details
• Imagining colors of the key objects
• Adding movement and action to each story
• Absurdity, exaggeration and humor used wherever possible
• Imagining sound, smell, touch, taste connected with the story
• Sequence and order
• Being personally in the center of events – thinking from the “I” perspective
You can add an anchor to selected words in the Memorizing or Spelling mode. The icon of the anchor is visible in the upper bar. Once you have clicked on it, you will see a red “plus” button. When you select it, you will have access to the window where you can add a new anchor. If you want the memory anchor technique to be effective, use it in accordance with the Word Substitute Technique.
Word Substitute Technique is particularly helpful in foreign language learning. Poring over new vocabulary lists is neither effective nor pleasant. Thanks to the Word Substitute Technique learning foreign words is much faster. The secret lies in dividing a word into smaller syllables intuitively. Once you have done that, your task is to match word associations with vocabulary items in your mother tongue. In this particular case, given syllables or the entire word should have similar sounds. The technique described above will help you master words of different length and level of complexity.
Speeq IQ is an indicator that will show your individual pace of memorizing new vocabulary, starting with the moment you open a new card and ending with the moment you master the words completely. Apart from your individual indicator you will also see the average level of Speeq IQ of all users working on a given linguistic combination (avg. Speeq IQ).
Spelling enables you to verify your knowledge of the memorized material as well as to polish your spelling skills. In this mode, algorithm also proves helpful as it assesses your knowledge of a particular word at suitable time intervals by asking you to spell it on your own, depending on your abilities.
Move on to the spelling mode once you have finished learning vocabulary in the Memorizing mode. It would be easier for you to master certain words.
You have three chances. You can make maximum two mistakes. If you make three mistakes, the word gets uncovered. Words are displayed in three colours: green, blue, and red standing for “Acquired”, “Partially acquired”, “Not acquired”, just like in the Memorizing mode.
You can move on to the next card by touching the area where the word should be entered or by selecting “Next” on your keyboard.
You may ask for hints. If you touch the upper part of the screen, you will hear the phrase preceding the missing word. If you touch the lower part of the screen, you will hear the missing word itself. Each hint deprives you of one chance.
Collections let you manage your learning process precisely. Create a new collection by selecting a given category or vocabulary list. You may choose ready-made Speeq cards or create your own cards.
Use the home page and select the “plus” button from the upper bar. You will see the window in which you can create your own cards. Each entered word will be translated by Google Translate automatically. You can accept the translation or enter your own solution. Each card has its own sound thanks to TTS mechanism. Once you have entered your word, save the group of cards and name it. You can start learning new words on the home page. If the newly created group of cards is not set for learning, you can add it to your Collections.
Algorithm is responsible for revisions. It monitors your revisions in terms of content and time intervals. Speeq will select cards in a way that you will repeat each unknown word a suitable number of times and at relevant time intervals, depending on the graph indicating your memorizing pace.
